Background
The organiser of the event, Henry Wancke, successfully ran the event for nearly a decade in the 80s and 90s and is delighted that the LTA have agreed to revive the event and grant it the status of ‘LTA supported event’. The event was originally suggested by the late Victor Kiam.
John McEnroe made his competitive debut as a schoolboy in the popular American version of the Father & Son Championships which has run successfully in the States for well over half a century. Other well known players who have competed in the international event include John Newcombe and Roy Emerson with their respective sons.
Well known British players who competed in the eighties and nineties include Mark Petchey with his father Rod, David and Scott Lloyd, Mark and Stephen Cox as well as the late Gerald Battrick and his son Jamie.
The postal element will run between April and August with Regional Finals in September and National Finals in October/November. Venues and dates to be finalised.
